Zohreh Kohzadi, Registered Clinical Counsellor at Crescent Health

A calm, practical place to start

Zohreh holds a Master of Counselling Psychology and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

Her work is trauma-informed and culturally responsive, paying attention to how past experiences, relationships, culture, identity and circumstance shape emotional wellbeing. Sessions are collaborative and paced to you — never rushed, and never one-size-fits-all. Clients often describe her as steady and easy to talk to: skilled without being clinical or distant, and able to offer both emotional support and practical tools.

She draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based work, and somatic and mindfulness techniques, with Levels 1 and 2 in the Gottman Method for couples and further training in trauma, grief and bereavement.

How we can help

Counselling for adults, couples and parents — with several services billed directly so cost is not a barrier.

Individual Counselling

A confidential space to speak openly and understand what sits beneath the surface, with practical tools for anxiety, low mood, stress, self-esteem and life transitions.

Couples Counselling

Slowing things down so both partners feel heard. Focused on patterns rather than blame, using the research-based Gottman Method to rebuild communication and trust.

Parenting & Caregiver Support

Understanding your child’s behaviour and your own responses with compassion, plus practical strategies for calmer routines, boundaries and connection.

Anger & Emotion Regulation

Understand what sits underneath anger, slow reactions down, build grounding skills, set clearer boundaries and communicate needs without losing control.

Trauma & Grief

A paced approach that prioritises safety and stabilisation while gently working with flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, loss and bereavement.

Culturally Responsive Care

Faith and culture are welcomed as part of the work, not set aside — including migration stress, family expectations, belonging and bicultural identity.

ICBC Counselling

Counselling after a motor vehicle accident, billed directly to ICBC. No doctor’s referral is needed, and there is no fixed deadline to begin.

CVAP Counselling

For those affected by violent crime, including immediate family and witnesses. Billed directly to the Crime Victim Assistance Program.

Getting started

Beginning counselling is straightforward, and the first step costs nothing.

Free 15-minute consultation

A short, no-obligation call to talk through what you are looking for and get a feel for whether it is the right fit. Many people start here.

02

Your first session

There is nothing to prepare. We start with what brings you in, what you are hoping for and what matters most right now, then agree where to begin.

03

Counselling is not covered by MSP, but most extended health plans in BC include coverage for Registered Clinical Counsellors. Direct billing is available through most providers, so there is usually nothing to pay up front and no receipts to submit — and you still receive a receipt for your records. Coverage varies, so it is worth asking your insurer whether RCC services are covered, your annual maximum, and the percentage reimbursed per session.

ICBC and CVAP sessions are billed directly to those programs. A limited number of sliding-scale spaces are kept for patients experiencing financial hardship — please ask.

Payment is accepted by Interac e-Transfer, credit card, debit or cash. We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel an appointment: under 48 hours is charged at half the session fee, and under 24 hours at the full fee.

Common questions

Do I need a diagnosis or a referral?

Neither. You can book directly. Counselling is just as useful for understanding yourself, improving relationships or getting through a stressful period as it is for a diagnosed condition.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If you feel overwhelmed, stuck or unsure how to move forward, counselling can help — you do not need to be in crisis. You also do not have to decide in advance: many people book a single session to see how the space feels before committing to anything further.

What happens in the first session?

Nothing to prepare and no script to follow. It is a conversation about what brings you in and what you are hoping for, at whatever pace feels manageable.

How often would I come?

Most people begin weekly or every second week to build momentum and stability, then move to less frequent sessions as things settle. The rhythm is reviewed together rather than fixed in advance.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. Counselling records are kept separately from your medical chart and are not shared with your family physician or anyone else without your written consent, apart from the narrow legal exceptions every clinician is bound by.

Do you work with specific cultural or faith backgrounds?

Yes. Faith-sensitive counselling is offered for anyone who wants their cultural or spiritual values to be part of the conversation — and equally, it is never assumed or imposed if you would rather it stayed out of the room.

Are sessions available in languages other than English?

Yes — sessions are offered in both English and Farsi.

Can I be seen online instead of in person?

Yes. Sessions are available in person at our Delta clinic or by secure video anywhere in British Columbia, whichever suits you better.
